ONE LINER
Maria Westerstahl, 2013
ongoing exhibition at Albert 5

One Liner is the fictional stream of consciousness of a collective identity.  Its first person narrative is that of a hypothetical character, amalgamated from unedited fragments of interviews with resident artists and practitioners at The Albert.  The piece invites the reader to follow a thread through an internal consciousness as well as the spaces it actually inhabits, imposing a format of unity onto multiple voices to engage with the paradoxical dynamics of authorship, creativity and identity.

LIFE IN A PEACEFUL NEW WORLD
an exhibition by Ruth Edwards

In her first solo exhibition, Ruth Angel Edwards presents new work as part of a project completed in the second half of 2012 with funding from Arts Council England. 'Life in a Peaceful New World' focuses on the perceived notion of the arts collective as a functioning utopian agency, using Sauna Gallery, a small studio group and gallery in Hoxton, London as the subject of the piece.

The work consists of a series of three large scale paintings in which life sized female figures are central to the work, interacting with one another and working together to build a structure in an idealised, 'perfect' wilderness environment. Her technical style draws on various forms of illustrative painting, in particular those intended to convey a clear social or political message to a mass audience, such as Soviet Socialist Realism, Ladybird book illustrations from the 50s, 60s and 70s, and the idealised paintings and drawings commonly used in Religious pamphlets. 'Life in a Peaceful New World' takes it's title from widely distributed Evangelical Christian pamphlets.

Ruth Angel Edwards moved to London from Nottingham in 2005 to study Fine Art at Central Saint Martins College. She has since exhibited her work at Auto Italia South East, John Jones Project space and at the two day event 'No Soul For Sale' at Tate Modern. She received a personal development grant from Arts Council England in 2012 as part of Grants For the Arts, and has two further exhibitions in London planned later this year.

LOST NATION by THE RED ROOM

"We are forgetting that when you cut people they bleed...There's a lost nation out there who people just don't see or speak to." (Monique, in her own words.)

Booking is now open for our latest production, Lost Nation. Based on interviews with real people, Lost Nation is gritty site-specific drama set in the streets of London. It is the culmination of extensive research whilst working alongside some of the most vulnerable in our society. Lost Nation tells the story of people who have been branded skivers and shirkers in their own words.

The Albert school

The Albert School on Sundays emerged from a longstanding and fruitful collaboration between a qualified teacher of science and mathematics, and a professional artis, both based in London. The school comes as a platform where one could project and instil in young people ideals of humanity and education, where skilfulness is passed on from teacher to pupils as a trait of enrichment, where knowledge is conveyed for the fulfilment of their personality.

The one hour long sessions cover the key topics of the National Curriculum for KS4 (AQA, Edexcel, OCR, IGCSE) & KS5 Physics and Maths.

Drop in for one or several of our unique GCSE Maths and Science Classes.

Parents are welocme for discussions after school.
